The police report that a woman died in a fatal car accident yesterday (7) on Sumanarathna Road in the Kohuwala police area.
The deceased woman was traveling in a car with her son and his wife when the vehicle suddenly stopped working. As a result, her son attempted to restart the car by placing a rock under the front wheel.
During this time, the deceased woman and her daughter-in-law removed the rock that had been placed under the front wheel in an effort to restart the vehicle.
However, because the car was parked on a slope, it suddenly moved forward, and in the process, the woman was struck by the vehicle. She was pronounced dead upon admission to the Kalubowila Hospital.
Investigations have revealed that while the daughter-in-law managed to move away quickly as the car rolled down the slope, the deceased woman was unable to get out of the way, resulting in the accident.
According to police, the deceased was a 59-year-old Senior Lecturer at the University of Colombo who resided in the Sumanarathna Road, Kohuwala area.
